The ancient Egyptians enjoyed good food, drink, music, singing, and dancing. A number of musical instruments were commonly used, amongst them were the flute, oboe, harps, tambourines and drums. In the quiet of their homes, the ancient Egyptians played a number of board games, the most popular being Senet and Mehen. Ancient Egyptian children had games and amusements very similar to those of Egyptian children today.
Other activities included hunting, fowling and fishing which took place in marshes. For fowling, Egyptians used a throwstick that acted like a boomerang, stunning the bird and knocking it out of the sky. Daily life in ancient Egypt revolved around the Nile and the fertile land along its banks. The yearly flooding of the Nileenrichedthe soil and brought good harvests and wealth to the land. The people of ancient Egypt built mudbrick homes in villages and inthe country. They grew some of their own food and traded in thevillages for the food and goods they could not produce. Most ancient Egyptians worked as field hands, farmers, craftsmen andscribes. A small group of people were nobles. Together, these different groups of people made up the population of ancient Egypt.
